P.E.A.C.E. celebrated the United Nations International Day of Peace on Saturday, September 21, 2016, from 4:30-5:30 pm in the fountain area of Idlewild Park at the Corner of Idlewild and Washington Streets in Easton. The theme of the one hour silent vigil was “Let Peace Begin with Me.”

The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date. It was established by the UN by resolution in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the General Assembly. The first Peace Day was celebrated in September 1982. It has grown to include millions of people all over the world. In addition to standing for the end of violence and conflict in every nation, it is an opportunity to make peace in our own personal relationships.

This Peace Vigil is being planned and sponsored by P.E.A.C.E. (Peace Education And Community Effort), a Talbot County grassroots organization whose vision is to promote a culture of peace in our community and in the world. We stand for Peace every Thursday between 5 and 6pm in front of the courthouse on Washington Street in Easton. Please join us!
